Chinese Takeout From Your Home @ Las Cosas

I attended the Chinese takeout cooking class at Las Cosas tonight. First time taking a Friday night class. DeVargas Center closes by 7pm on Fridays and Las Cosas closes at 6pm so we were going to be in the store and the shopping center after hours.

Class description: Tonight we celebrate Chinese New Year with a menu chock full of some of your favorite Chinese Take-out dishes. We will fill our cardboard containers with: Hot & Sour Soup, Crispy Springrolls, Asian Cucumber Salad, Kung Pao Chicken, Scallion Pancakes, Shrimp Toast, Crab Rangoon, and Homemade Fortune Cookies. Be ready for the Year of the Dog with this delcious menu. (Hands-On)

Kung Pao Chicken

We had a lot of items on this menu and 13 people in the class. Classmate Rita and I worked on the Kung Pao Chicken. I think it came out well. Spicy dish with tender chicken.

The recipe contained the following:

  • Boneless, skinless chicken breasts
  • Marinade

    • Chinese rice wine or dry sherry
    • sesame oil
    • cornstarch
  • Sauce
    • dark soy sauce
    • Chinese rice wine or dry sherry
    • sugar
  • Other components
    • dried red chili peppers
    • garlic
    • green onions
    • oil (for frying)
    • peanuts or cashews
    • sesame oil

After the chicken was almost done, it was removed so that the garlic, peppers, and sauce could cook. Then the chicken was added back in and the cashews and green onions were finally added.
